 WEATHER AND TIDES

Moon And Sun Affects

Tide forecast at bottom of page.

I've been asked many a time How tides are made, What makes tides, How the moon makes tides and what are tides, and this is a short, basic and brief answer to that. Tides are caused by the gravitational force of the moon and sun. The moon is closer to the earth than the sun and has a greater pull on the water and our planet, this makes our UK tides, Pacific ocean tides, atlantic tides and infact all sea tides!

Types Of Tides - Spring Neap Tides

Spring Tides

The gravitational force from the sun and moon are greatest when the moon is inline with the sun. This couses what we know as spring tides, these are extreamily High and Low tides(A bigger differance between the Low and High tides).

Neap Tides

The effect is not so big when the gravitational pull of the sun and moon form a right angle, when this happens (7days after a spring tide) the differance between Low tide and High tide is less.

Power - May have to slow down if against tide.

5.

FRESH BREEZE

17-21 Knots

Moderate waves, many white crests

Sail - Reef mainsail

Power - Reduce speed to prevent slamming when going upwind
